Merry Christmas

I hope you all had a great Christmas! I had a very different Christmas this year with Luke’s family.

It was a good Christmas with great food and some very nice presents. On Christmas Eve I woke up early as I child to watch Christmas movies and eat candy from my stocking. After that I baked a gingerbread house from scratch as a present to Luke’s Family. 'At night Dan, Luke and I had a home cooked Norwegian Christmas dinner before we opened some presents. Happy and tired we left to Luke’s parents for the night, and his mum seams to love the gingerbread house. We drank some mulled wine (gløgg :D ) before going to bead watching the Polar Express! The morning after (photo) we woke up early to open more presents, and I got a beautiful ring and a very nice perfume from his parents, and chocolate from Santa :D After that we had breakfast before crushing the gingerbread house (ordentlig pepperkake hus), before getting ready for dinner with Luke's family. I met his cosines, uncles, aunties and his grandpa, they’re all very nice people. I am looking forward to spend more Christmases with them =). Anyway, hope you had a great celebration as well?! Love you all, write soon!

  2. Dear Helene, I'm sure Christmas was different since you could wear summer clothes for a change. Your gingerbread house looks great, you are so talented. Who is the adorable little boy with the curly hair? He is really cute. I'm glad you had an enjoyable Christmas. What kind of Norwegian food did you make? We had medisterkaker, surkaal, mashed potatoes, gravy. I made pepperkake and some other cookies, also made Mor Monsen's Kake. Your Great-Grandma always made these things, so I'm doing it now, wouldn't be the same without it. We have had these things since our first Christmas together in 1966, so it is our tradition. I hope you and Luke have the best New Year ever. I guess it's already New Year's eve there, we still have 1 more day. We usually don't do anything special on New Year's eve, but Sunday we'll have a big dinner for the New Year. So I'll be cooking a ham, sweet potatoes ,blackeyed peas and collard green's, all very southern foods for where we live here. Black eyed peas and collard green's are supposed to be Good Luck food for the new year, sure hope so. I'll talk to you soon, have a great weekend. Love,Aunt Judy

  3. Takk pappa. Kluss med å ringe deg, men endte opp med å få tak i Synøve, så nå vet dere sånn ca hva som er til hvem i pakka :)
    Snakkes snart da =)

Thanks Aunty, it took me ages to make it, but it turned out ok. The adorable little kid is Luke’s cousin, his two years old and loved all the attention he got at Christmas =) I made turkey, swede potatoes and gravy for our Christmas eve and then we had ham, chicken, turkey, and prawns on Christmas day. I wanted to make surkål, but figured that I would be happy enough with swede :D We only baked pepperkaker this year, but I’m getting some recipes from my mum for next time because there were some cookies I missed this year. Its New Year Eve here and we are going down the coast to celebrate, really looking forward to it. And I’ll write all about it when we get back =) Hope you have a great day when it comes, and Talk to you in 2012 :D
