I’ve been home sick from work today,. Boring as always, so I tried to figure out a solution for my blog language dilemma. I started the blog for my Aunty, thinking that it was a great idea for the rest of the family to check up on me when I move to the other side of the world. But several members of my family thought I should write it in Norwegian. I considered creating another blog, but realized that it would be too much work. It would also be too much work for people to copy my posts and translating it in Google Translate. I wasn’t sure what to do, but writing English comes more natural to me now, than Norwegian.
So I tried to use my computer skills which I got from the unit “Dynamic webpage development” at UiA. After hours trying to figure it out I stumbled upon a translation widget that I could use. This is why everyone can choose a language in the bottom (right) of this blog, and Google will translate the blog’s content. I’m pretty happy about the result even though the grammar could be better at in the Google Translate app. Try it out =)
Dear Helene, So sorry your feeling bad, hope your much better tomorrow. I appreciate your writing in English but I'm sure the family would rather you write in Norwegian. I don't want them to be upset with me, so if you need to write in Norwegian that's ok. I'm just one person and there are many more of them. I could try the translation thing and see if it will work for me. I never got to take any foreign languages when I was in school, I had a hard enough time with English. I can understand sometimes what is being said in Norwegian and occasionally when it is written I can kinda get an idea of what is going on. I tryed my Norsk-English book but the words are not always in there. I'm sure you all have your on slang version of words over there too. I know Hans sometimes can't figure out what I'm talking about because we use so much slang over here, more than proper English so it is difficult. Anyway do what you want to do it will be ok with me either way. Your blog is really nice, I really like the revolvermap, just noticed it says Geneva,Al. on it, that is so cool. ReplyDeleteHelene, I just tryed the translater in Norwegian and it works great, I just arrow over an area and it shows it in English, I love this, maybe I can learn some Norwegian this way, lets hope. Love ya, Judy
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you. But the truth is that i prefer English at it comes more natural to me for several reasons. It's not just because of you that read my blog in English, and Luke can read when I'm in Norway. So thank you, but it stays in English. Now I have a translator so doesn't matter. But who knows, maybe i would want to keep up with my Norwegian after a while in Australia; in that case I’ll change the written language. Every country has slangs, and Australians have different slangs than America and England and so on. That's why it's hard to learn another language.
